Adoption questions

What age do kittens go home? Why not 8 weeks?

A: Our kittens go home around 14–16 weeks. Waiting a few extra weeks sets them up for a healthy, confident start:

  • Mother + littermate “etiquette.” Kittens learn bite inhibition, grooming, play skills, and feline body-language from their mother and littermates during the social development period; removing too early disrupts this learning. International Cat Care+1

  • Lower behavior risks. Studies link early weaning to increased aggression and stereotypic behaviors; later placement (≈14 weeks) reduces these risks. PMC+1

  • Health & vaccines. Core kitten vaccines are given every 2–4 weeks until 16–18 weeks; protection isn’t reliable until the series is completed and given time to work. AAHA+1

  • Surgery & recovery. We complete spay/neuter and allow full recovery with a final vet check before placement. (AAFP supports pediatric sterilization before 5 months.) PMC

Bottom line: Even after weaning, time with mom + littermates builds manners and resilience, while finishing vaccines and recovery makes the transition safer for everyone.

Yes—our breeding cats are HCM-screened annually by a board-certified cardiologist, and we only breed cats that pass.

Start with a quick phone interview so we can answer questions on both sides and be sure the kitten is a great fit. Next you can meet your kitten via Zoom or in person. We’ll then send our contract to sign. A $300 deposit secures your kitten and place in line. Deposits are non-refundable but transferable to another kitten or a future litter.

Delivery & Pick-Up

Do you deliver Sphynx kittens nationwide?

Yes. We offer nationwide in-cabin flight nanny delivery through a Shadowborn Sphynx representative. This keeps kittens in the cabin (never cargo) for safety and comfort.

We coordinate dates with you. Your kitten will fly in-cabin to your arrival airport and meets you at the terminal. We pass delivery at our cost (no markup). Ask for a quote when you contact us.

Absolutely. Families often fly into Salt Lake City (SLC) or Provo. We can meet at SLC or Provo by arrangement, or you’re welcome to pick up from our home in Utah.

Yes. We can meet halfway within a reasonable distance for a small fee to help with travel costs. We’ll suggest a convenient, public location and confirm time and route.

No. For kitten safety, we only use in-cabin transport or in-person pickup. We never ship cargo.

Bring an airline-approved carrier, and payment if any balance remains. We provide  health record and a go-home kit which provides all of the basics.
